Save Money on Buying Shipping Supplies

If you’re a card breaking enthusiast, chances are you put in a lot of care when mailing cards and that means purchasing the right shipping supplies is high on your to-do list. These shipping products often translate to a large expense but with careful planning, you can actually save money on buying shipping supplies.

Here are three tried-and-tested ways that can help you save money when getting shipping supplies. These might not mean much right away, but your little savings can easily roll up into a considerable amount in months or years.

3 Ways to Save Money on Buying Shipping Supplies

1. Use bubble mailers

One sure way to keep postage costs down is to keep packages flat, and bubble mailers do the trick. If you’re sending one or two cards, use #000 bubble mailers. They’re small, but they’re perfect for up to two cards. You can go with #00 if you need something slightly larger.

Moreover, bubble mailers don’t cost much. They’re usually priced at $0.50 to $0.70 per piece at dollar stores but if you buy them in bundles of 250 online, that price tag can go as low as $0.20. Besides, if you’re constantly trading cards, a large supply of bubble mailers is something nice to be lying around. Aside from saving money, it also saves time since you won’t have to go out every now and then just to buy some.

Lastly, no matter what you, never use plain white envelopes as they offer no protection to the cards. Even if the cards did arrive safely and undamaged, using such envelopes doesn’t do your reputation much good. Neglecting to use proper mailing envelopes can discourage card traders from dealing with you in the future.

2. Repurpose storage boxes as shipping boxes

The white corrugated cardboard boxes often used for storage can also be used to ship the cards, particularly when you’re shipping 100 cards or more as they can safely hold up to 800 cards at a time. Just be sure to pack the cards properly. Line, the box’s inside edges with folded papers to prevent damage on the card corners. You can also add packing peanuts to prevent the cards from moving while in transit.

However, it’s best to avoid boxes when sending less than 75 cards. You can just place them in four-team bags and put them in a bubble mailer. This will keep your package flat, thus cutting down on shipping rates. Besides, bubble envelopes are cheaper than cardboard storage boxes.

3. Buy packaging tapes in bulk

Like most things bought in bulk, packaging tapes cost less when bought in packs. They’re easily available in packs of six rolls and since trading cards means using packaging tapes all the time, it doesn’t hurt to have them on hand.

Also, mailing tapes are different from those used for storage. You might think they’re the same since they look the same, but they’re not. Mailing tapes are generally cheaper, so pay attention next time when buying your supplies and choose the right tape.
